Happy 1st Birthday Little Miss

It’s the eve of your first birthday and a night much like the day you were born one year ago.

From the moment the nurse said “It’s a girl!” we immediately fell in love with you -- your sweet face, your beautiful eyes, your little mouth, your impossibly small fingers and toes. You were tiny, but mighty, with a ton of personality even then. You were a fighter from the start. You arrived four days early, healthy and strong. We felt fortunate to get to know you as I was anxious to get you out and see you in my arms.

It’s immeasurable, the love we have for you. Our lives have not been the same since you arrived. We’re not the same people; we are better because you’re here. We are better because you inspire us to be good parents, good people.

We marvel at your every change – your first tooth, your first babbles, your first steps. Your funny shrieks and your hearty belly laugh. Your toothy smile. How you can feed yourself. How you can climb the stairs in a flash. We are fascinated by your every move and sound. We look at each other in wonder of this amazing little person we have created. We are astounded how one little person has altered our outlook, our goals, our worldview, and our very souls.

I wish for you a life full of wonder and beauty, love, peace and joy. I will do everything within my means to ensure this happens. I look forward to watching you grow and change from the sweet baby in my arms into a thoughtful, intelligent woman.

I have no wish for this change to happen quickly. Already, a year has passed all too swiftly. It has been the most wonderful, fun, fulfilling year of my life. The days fly by, one mixing with the next. Each night, when I put you to sleep, I wish I could relive the day again, spend it with you once more. I wish the time wouldn’t go so fast, that I could live in slow motion. I am keenly aware that too soon you will be heading to kindergarten with your little backpack, waving at me from the end of the driveway, off to school and away from me.

But until that day, I feel fortunate to spend these years in your company, loving you and helping you learn, helping you to be a good person. Just as you have done for me.

Happy Birthday, little Miss.
Love always,
Mommy

-juice

-juice \'jüs\ n suffix: an appendage term used by parents to refer to any type of liquid, especially that intended for adults <mommy-juice = Riesling>; <daddy-juice = Sam Adams>; <go-juice = coffee>; <cow-juice = milk>

I could use some mommy-juice right about now! Little Miss has mommy and daddy needing their own special-juice these days. Now that we're on the move we seem to be moving towards the floor, the edge of furniture and even moving our sippy cup into the roof of our mouth - all of these moves make for a very unhappy, sobbing, weeping, red faced, howling little Miss.  Mommy feels the same way sometimes at work I'm just not allowed to throw a tantrum and keep my job!

The big 01 is 2 days away!! I can't believe it...the thought of that alone makes me need some mommy-juice!

Anyone who didn't get a formal invitation to the bash that would like to crash a 1 year old birthday party for free cake and a ride on a slip and slide is welcome to stop by on Saturday afternoon! We'll have adult-juice for everyone of age!

We Are WALKING!!

Okay, so I'm seriously over the moon that my little girl is officially in the "walk zone" - she willingly walks without the help of her favorite choo-choo that she just got as an early birthday gift last weekend! If I had known that a little independence would go such a long way I may have rethought allowing her to open her gift early, just kidding...as much as it scares me to death that she's developing so quickly I would be heart broken if she were lagging behind so it's good that she's progressing all on her own, in what the pediatrician refers to as "text book fashion".

She didn't started walking at 9months like some nor will she be resting on her laurels till she's 16months like others, she is what I would consider "just right" - although I fear she'll be running by October and will decide to run head first into the ocean while we're on vacation!!  My heart may stop at that moment and I may return from Myrtle Beach with a permanent tether tied to her!

For now she'll be confined to walking around the house while Daddy and I perform the role of her personal cheer leaders. Today she walked right over to Gammy too...so take that Ginger Rogers!

On the Move Again...

Part of the Jersey trip was a visit to "Auntie Gwen & Uncle Tony's" house to see them and play with one of her first BBF's Liam...the first boy to ever kiss her - yeah, it's cute now but not so much when she's 13 and he's 15 - then we're going to have to have a little chat!  So on Sunday we stopped to see them and had a mini birthday party to celebrate Liam turning 3 on July 7th and Abbey's pending 1st birthday. The kids exchanged gifts as the adults shared parenting stories some good, some funny some that would bring tears to your eyes!

Abbey's gift came in perfect time, as soon as we got home Sunday night we couldn't pry her hands from it...and around the house she goes every waking hour these days...to say we LOVE our gift would be an understatement...and to say Mommy loves the fact that I no longer have to hold two little hands as she makes laps around the dinning room table all afternoon is also an understatement! I prefer to sit back and watch her enjoy her independence.

As much as I prefer the "non-mobile" version, I love to see her growing and doing new things too so I'm trying to balance the array of emotions about all her advancements. For now, I'll clap and be a cheerleader.

Jersylicious

Little Miss made her first trip to Jersey this past weekend, while her furry, four legged sister got to spend a little quality time with gammy & papa.

This was Abbey on the way down to Jersey:

In true Jersey style she played in the pool, lounged in the sun, caught a concert, ate too much, stayed up late and got way too frisky with the boys! Thankfully there was no drinking, driving, flashing or fighting (okay there was one naked swim in the pool but we were in Jersey, not on the Jersey shore.

As I sat back and watched her laugh, giggle, smile, jabber, and ultimately win the hearts of all around her I found myself in continued awe. She was truly the hit of the party.

This was Abbey on the way home from Jersey:
Needless to say, we party hard...we crash hard! Thanks to Jersey for the great time - Good nite and we'll see you next trip!
